Nature, contained.

A terrarium is more than decoration. It's a complete, living ecosystem sealed inside glass — a pocket of wilderness that waters itself, breathes on its own, and grows quietly on your shelf.

Every LochLeaf jar is built by hand in our workshop, using sustainably sourced tropical plants, sphagnum moss, activated charcoal, and natural drainage stone. We take the time to get the balance right so your terrarium thrives for years, not weeks.

  • Self-sustaining Sealed terrariums water themselves through condensation
  • Low maintenance No watering, no feeding — just indirect light

Keeping your terrarium happy

Closed terrariums are wonderfully low-maintenance, but a little know-how goes a long way. Here's everything you need.

Placement

Keep your terrarium in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which overheats the glass, and keep it away from radiators or draughty windowsills.

Watering

Sealed terrariums recycle their own water and rarely need topping up. Open-top terrariums need a light misting every one to two weeks — keep the soil damp, not wet.

Condensation

Morning condensation on the glass is perfectly normal. If it never clears, briefly remove the lid for an hour to let excess moisture escape, then reseal.

Signs of Trouble

Yellowing leaves usually mean too much light. White mould on soil is common early on — open the lid and let it dry slightly. Wilting can signal too little moisture.

Long-term Care

Trim plants that outgrow the jar with clean scissors. If a plant dies, gently remove it and replace with a similar species. A well-balanced terrarium can thrive for years.
